School Smarts Academy Surveys

Planning Team

The Planning Team plays an important role in the preparation and implementation of the School Smarts Parent Engagement Program. They come together to decide the best time to hold the Parent Engagement Night (PEN) event, the Parent Academy sessions and coordinate any site logistics.

Team members may include principals, facilitators, teachers, parent leaders, English Learner Advisory representatives, school site council representatives and School Smarts graduates (if applicable to your school).

SCHOOL SMARTS MODEL

The School Smarts Model provides you with information on how the program is divided into three key elements. See below how the Planning team works in each element.

  • Parent Engagement Night:  The Parent Engagement Night event is a crucial part of marketing and outreach of the School Smarts Parent Engagement Program. The Planning Team identifies a location for the event, helps market to parents as well as plans logistics for the event. Logistics include managing facilities and arranging for food, childcare and any interpretation or translation needed.

  • Parent Academy: The Parent Academy offers training for parents through a series of seven two-hour sessions led by trained facilitator(s). The Planning Team identifies a location for the Parent Academy and arranges dates and times, as well as plans any logistical needs.

  • Graduation Celebration: The graduation celebration is the culmination of the seven-week Parent Academy.  The celebration is a recognition of the commitment and achievement of the parents. The Planning Team assists with logistics as needed.
