Meet the Board of Directors: Mariaelena Huizar

Mariaelena Huizar, Vice President for Health and Community Concerns on the Board of Directors, has been involved with California State PTA for 26 years. Her favorite thing about PTA is opening the eyes of parents and caregivers to the importance of their role with their children’s educational success in life.

The love of Mariaelena’s life is her husband Daniel. They have three awesome children, Andrea, Anna and Daniel, and her extended family, Sam and Jamal. They are blessed to have five grandchildren, Erik, Anthony, Nayeli, Janessa and Talia. “I highly value my family, Mexican culture, music, and tradition. I love baking and cooking my Mom’s and my ancestors’ authentic Mexican/Spanish foods.” She also enjoys designing jewelry and working in her garden.

Mariaelena is a Family Engagement Consultant and provides training to school districts, school sites, and faith-based organizations. Her passion is working with families and their children of all ages. “I am always learning from people around me, motivating my passion in life.”

Her advice to others is that the greatest leaders are not necessarily the ones that do the greatest things, but those who can are the greatest role models.
